Comincia così la riflessione del presidente del Consiglio comunale di Monreale Marco Intravaia, all’indomani del via alla corsa in rosa, la più importante gara ciclistica del paese. In questo 2020 segnato dall’epidemia da Covid, la bandiera rossa levata in alto daMusumeci allo start è diventata metafora di una grande ripartenza per la Sicilia e l’Italia.
“Il cuore mi ha spinto a chiedere Monreale – ha continuato Intravaia – conscio delle grandi responsabilità che mi assumevo. È chiaro che insieme al sindaco Arcidiacono avremmo risposto con la nostra reputazione personale e politica di ogni inefficienza o errore. Così non è stato, la città si è fatta trovare pronta, i ciclisti non hanno incontrato sul nostro territorio alcuna criticità e la giornata del 3 ottobre sarà consegnata alla storia come una delle più gloriose per Monreale, anche perché non è usuale che il Giro parta da una città di provincia, poiché l’arrivo è sempre previsto in una sede rappresentativa come Milano. Un risultato che voglio condividere con tutti quelli che hanno reso possibile la sua ottima riuscita. Ringrazio il sindaco Alberto Arcidiacono e tutta l’amministrazione comunale per gli enormi sforzi profusi, in modo particolare l’assessore Geppino Pupella e Piero Albanese che hanno sacrificato anche le loro notti per seguire i lavori, i miei consiglieri comunali, alcuni dei quali non si sono sottratti per dare una mano anche fisicamente e personalmente, le Forze dell’Ordine, la Polizia municipale, la Protezione civile, i tantissimi volontari e i cittadini che si sono mostrati rispettosi e all’altezza dell’evento e che mi auguro abbiano apprezzato il momento che abbiamo voluto offrirvi. Con loro voglio condividere un altro successo: il recupero di una parte della viabilità cittadina. La riqualificazione stradale delle ultime settimane è andata ben oltre le tre strade interessate dal Giro, piazza Florio, via Florio e via Arcivescovado. Ma i lavori si sono svolti anche sullaCirconvallazione, la via Santa Liberata, via Strada Ferrata, via Palermo, via Antonio Veneziano, via Roma, via Santa Maria Nuova, via Venero, un tratto di via Biagio Giordano, e Pio La Torre, arterie sulle quali non si effettuava manutenzione da un ventennio e che la Regione ha prontamente autorizzato. Un evento come la partenza del Giro è un’eredità che rimane alla collettività nei segni visibili, ma anche nel cuore e nella mente di chi li ha vissuti, soprattutto dei più giovani che un giorno potranno raccontare di essere stati testimoni di un evento storico. Tutto questo lungi dall’appagarci ci spinge ad andare avanti con maggiore determinazione per fare crescere la città con eventi sempre più di ampio respiro, come la Rassegna di Musica Sacra che prenderà il via stasera con uno dei maggiori direttori d’orchestra viventi Sir John Eliot Gardiner”.
